Squared Circle Wrestling presented its second show, Salina Street Shakedown once again emanating from the Pastime Athletic Club right here in good old Syracuse, NY. Once again there was nary a seat in the wonderful venue, and all of the paying fans in attendance were given one hell of a wrestling show.
The show opened with 2CW official Matt Patterson announcing that the rabid Squared Circle loyals would have to wait more than two months for their next show, but 2CW’s triumphant return would be at the Convention Center at the OnCenter in downtown Syracuse.
The opening contest saw a rematch from Living on the Edge, which sold out on DVD before intermission this past Saturday. The Flamboyant J.D. Love battled that good ole boy Gordy who came to the Pastime with revenge on his mind. The contest was billed as a pure wrestling match, but hese two athletes could barely contain their hatred for one another and the match soon turned into an all out brawl. It seemed that Gordy was about to drive JD Love through a Flaming table, but apparently doing so was in violation of local fire ordinance number 318, as resident law man and all around buzz kill Johnny Law sprayed Gordy with a fire extinguisher saving Mr. Love. It was not enough for victory, though as Gordy reversed a roll-up and scored the one, two, three.
Johnny Law and JD love then proceeded to lay a furious beating on the southern boy. Gordy was then informed, although the jury is out on whether or not he was able to hear, that at the next show he would once again face the Pink Punisher, but there was more. It would be JD Love vs. Gordy vs. The SANDMAN!!!!
Although he was rumored to have travel problems and unable to attend, or so we were told by 2CW official Matt Patterson, the Strangler made his presence felt in front of the standing room only crowd. He attacked the law man and the 2CW security staff yet again, but this time it took handcuffs to remove the Strangler from the venue. Correspondence between the Strangler and myself revealed that although 2CW offered him a one time only appearance fee they balked at the last minute and made up the travel difficulty story. The Strangler said that 2CW officials were once again afraid of his violent tendencies and said thanks, but no thanks for his services.
Before the door was closed behind Strangler Steve, Jason Axe rushed to the ring to begin the second contest of the night, his match against Johnny Law. After some quick back and forth action the young rocker scored a roll-up victory on the big law enforcer.
While 2CW security may have shut the door behind the Strangler, they must have forgotten to lock it because the Strangler was back! He attacked his would be dispatcher and made his exit, once again proving that if 2CW thinks he is dangerous, he will be the most dangerous man in 2CW.
When order was finally restored, the fans were treated to a high flying spectacle as Ajax of All Money is Legal took on Loca Vida. 2CW’s warrior from south of the border….of Phoenix, was able to score a win over this young up and comer. Both men pulled out all the stops, but Loca’s experience proved to be too much for the smallest member of AMIL.
The Killer Steves then made their way to the ring to once again face off against All Money is Legal. AMIL didn’t even let the Steves get their ring jackets off before attempting to score a quick victory trying to get revenge from Living on the Edge. The Killer Steves would not go down that easily. After some underhanded tactics the Studly one and Mr. One Night Stand gained control, but it was not to be for the Steve’s on this night as All Money is Legal scored the victory tying up their rivalry with the Killer Steves at one win apiece.
After a brief intermission, action resumed with Isys Ephex taking on the debuting Dan Dynasty. Dynasty certainly impressed the 2CW and will be back for future bookings, but his best efforts were just not enough at Salina Street Shakedown. The puroresu influenced style of Isys Ephex yet again proved too much for his opposition. This time a brutal Cobra Clutch Suplex put Dynasty down for the count. After the match Ephex said that after two wins in 2CW he deserves to be in the main event and challenges the winner of the Syracuse Streetfight between Zaquary Springate III vs. Matt “Spike Dudley” Hyson.
Violet Flame then made her way to the ring. She addressed the fans and said that it was too bad no one could face her tonight. She said that she was supposed to apologize for breaking the ankle of Kayla Sparks. Before she could do that, Matt Patterson came out yet again and informed her that Ms. Sparks had challenged her to a rematch in July. Violet quickly accepted.
This brought us to our Main Event the much hyped Syracuse Streetfight. Zaquary Springate III was the first to the ring sporting a neck brace and ridiculous glasses. He informed the crowd that he was injured and would be unable to compete, this brought out Matt Hyson to attack Springate. The brawl went all over the Pastime Athletic Club, Hyson and Springate both gave each other vicious beatings. When the match returned to the ring the form Spike Dudley went for the Acid Drop but was thrown threw a table on the outside. He was then whipped into the ring post which resulted in a deep laceration on his forehead. Hyson, no stranger to bleeding however, was able to keep his wits about him long enough to surprise Springate with a roll-up for the victory.
Hyson didn’t have time to celebrate however, as Isys Ephex made his way to the ring to send a message to his future opponent. Ephex and Springate brought a table into the ring but Hyson was able to get the advantage and appeared to connect with a double Acid Drop, but it was reversed and he was slammed hard on top of the table which withstood all of his 155 pounds. A top rope power bomb was next, but still the table stood firm, and fans started to feel for the diminutive former Dudley. A Zaquary Springate top rope splash continued the punishment, yet the table withstood the assault. It seemed that the former Spike did not. Isys Ephex didn’t seem to care if Hyson had severe internal or external injuries as he upended the almost unconscious wrestler and delivered a vicious piledriver finally breaking the table and seemingly Matt Hyson as well.
Matt “Spike Dudley” Hyson was down but certainly not out. He proceeded to force himself to his feet and tell the audience that he and all the wrestlers do what they do for the fans, and emotionally spouted his opinions on WWE and their version of Extreme. Spike certainly laid it all on the line for the fans, and certainly will be revenge minded when 2CW returns on July 15th at the OnCenter.
