Before the doors officially opened for the show, all front row ticket holders were let in for a special 35-45 minute Q & A Session. I won’t recap the entire event, as I figure it was a special deal for the front row crowd (and probably will be/has been recapped in the boards), but I will say that it had its very entertaining moments.
First Group: “Main Event” Jason Axe, JD Love, “Muscle” Marcos, Cheech and Cloudy.
Second Group: Isys Ephex, J Freddie, ZS3, Slyck Wagner Brown, Brodie Lee, Loca Vida and Steve McKenzie
As for the main show, the “Axis of Evil” made their presence known right off the bat as the JD Love, “Muscle” Marcos and 2CW Champion, “Main Event” Jason Axe entered the ring. The crowd started in quick and it led to JD Love challenging “Studly” Steve McKenzie to a match, leaving the “Steve Search” to continue in Utica. The match was filled with some brawling around the ring and ringside area. Back and forth action, with both men focused on the win. JD sticking to “Axis of Evil” form, stole the victory from right out under “Studly” wrapping him up and holding the ropes for the three-count. JD Love then got into a shoving match with a fan, which left the fan back in his chair and Jack Trades on the ground in the aftermath.
The next match was very important to the Utica show in October, because the winner of this contest will become the number one challenger to the 2CW champion, and be awarded with an opportunity to challenge for that title on October 17th. Isys Ephex faced off with J Freddie in a very good back and forth match. Both have a lot to prove to each other and the 2CW management. Isys had made it very clear all night that he was being held back, and this was his chance to prove that he is championship material. J Freddie is the young kid most everyone wants to see succeed. This gave the match a lot of momentum to feed off of. The beginning saw Isys show up the less-seasoned J Freddie. Freddie was up for the task, but Isys was able to show the crowd his experience advantage throughout the event. Unfortunately, the “Axis of Evil” interjected themselves once again and caused Isys a chance at the title. While the referee was distracted, “Main Event” nailed Isys with the gold belt, and put Freddie on top for the win. As the newly re-formed power-grabbing “Axis of Evil” celebrated, they waved out the returning former 2CW champion, Dizzie! Dizzie entered the ring and was welcomed with open arms by the evil group. However, he turned on them and sent them running for the locker room. Dizzie helped up Isys and shook hands with the grateful J Freddie.
Up next was the LAST MAN STANDING contest between the “Muscle of 2CW” Marcos and ZS3. The opening saw Marcos waiting at the entrance for ZS3 with a chair; however Springate came from the crowd and sucker punched the chair into Marcos face. That almost did the trick, as the referee got to a 7 or 8 count. The match continued all over the arena. It was wild and crazy, as you would expect a last man standing match to be. ZS3 had a lot of the advantage throughout, but Marcos held his own for a while, using a steel chair to his advantage. At one point, ZS3 gave Marcos a huge splash off the apron through a table at ringside. Marcos was able to beat the count to his feet and the match continued. A garbage can was brought out, and the lid laid on top of Marcos. A Swanton onto the lid, onto Marcos brought out JD Love to help his fallen partner. ZS3 was able to send JD to the floor after a miscue between the “Axis of Evil”. A superkick sent Marcos into the bottom rope, and the main can was placed in Marcos face. With a little “help” from Jack Trades at ringside to hold the can in place, ZS3 went coast to coast and landed a Van Terminator for the knockout.
We went to intermission, with fans being able to pose with the 2CW championships for $5. Great deal, if you didn’t get a chance in Syracuse or Watertown, maybe the Utica crowd will get a shot as well.
As the crowd returned from intermission, we were treated to a tremendous match with Slyck Wagner Brown versus “Big Rig” Brodie Lee. This match was just as expected, hard-hitting great wrestling action. We had everything, power moves, technical moves, high-flying high-risk moves. One dive to the outside destroyed a guard rail and Jack Trades! Back in the ring, more back and forth action including Slyck’s T-bone superplexes, top-rope moonsaults, leaping leg lariats…all of these moves was not enough on this night, as Brodie hit TWO big boots and swinging sidewalk slams for the victory. Both men shook hands afterwards.
Tag Team Titles were on the line in the upcoming tag team match. Champions, Up in Smoke were defending against Jiglirous (Props to the gentleman who came up with that clever name…whoever you are…). This, of course, is a rematch from the finals of the tag team title tournament in Binghamton from June. Words, once again, do not do this match justice. The beginning few minutes were all Jigsaw and Delirious. Very funny stuff, mixed in with some amazing wrestling action. Tag Team wrestling isn’t any better ANYWHERE in the world that I’ve seen. I watch a lot of wrestling, that’s saying something. The wrestling in this match was worth the price of admission alone! Oh wait, there wasn’t a price for many of the admissions…well it would have been worth it if it had been! Up in Smoke walk out of Syracuse with their tag titles after catching Jigsaw with a double-stomp to the back of the head and turned him on his back with a vicious looking Sunset Flip Bomb for the three count.
The Main Event of the evening was for the 2CW Heavyweight Title. Isys Ephex made his presence known as he took a front row seat to watch the contest. This contest was a great technical match. Both men had game plans and stayed with them through and through. “Main Event” went after Loca’s arm to begin with contest. He used some wear down holds to keep the Luchador grounded. At one point, the champ went to the top rope, but lost his footing and came crashing down on the apron, missing Loca as well, and injuring his left knee in the process. Loca Vida took a submission approach from there on out, using very unique leg locks. Later on in the match, both men would work over each others injured limbs, going back and forth with submissions. Jason Axe liked the Crossface, and Loca liked the new leg lock he has used in the last couple of matches. In the end, it was the Fisherman’s Buster that ended the match and gave the “Main Event” another main event win, and another title defense under his cap. Loca Vida got up and shook hands with Jason Axe, but it was a set-up as JD Love came into the ring and nailed his former friend with the chair. All three were chased off by ZS3 and a chair. However, when Loca stood back up, he was under the impression that ZS3 was the attacker; much was the case in Watertown, with the role reversed. As those two argued about the incident, the “Axis of Evil” returned for a 3 on 2 fight until Isys jumped the rail and ran off the evil faction. The “Axis of Evil” tried again, but Marcos was caught, and taken out with a Burning Hammer from Isys, a Swanton from ZS3, and tapped out to Loca’s new leg lock finisher to send the crowd home happy.
